File Formats

Import

Depending on the file formats you need to open and work with, you can choose from three versions of 3D-Tool CAD viewer: Basic, Advanced, or Premium. Look at the table below for the file formats you need to import to the Viewer. Also, consider the export file formats you will need. The Premium version is the only one that comes with the 3D-NativeCAD Converter, which allows you to convert most 3D CAD models (BREP) into more compatible types.

Export

The 3D-Tool Viewer upon loading a file will convert all 3D file types to graphic visualization data (MESH) upon loading, therefore exporting is only possible to other visualization formats, not BREP.
The 3D-NativeCAD Converter can open most 3D CAD models (BREP) and offers conversion to many CAD file types. The 3D-NativeCAD converter can only be used with a Premium license.

Import Options

The quality of the visualization and the amount of data can be adjusted when importing 3D CAD models into the CAD viewer. 3D-Tool Premium also allows loading graphic visualization data from native CAD files. This means the 3D-Tool viewer can open large assemblies from CATIA, Siemens NX, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Creo, and Autodesk Inventor on standard PCs.

For native 3D models from Creo and SolidWorks, any existing "simplified representations" or "configurations" can be selected in the Premium import of the Viewer and the Converter.

The 3D NativeCAD Converter ensures very high quality when converting CAD models into 3D exchange formats such as STEP and IGES through automatic HEALING. Assembly models can be simplified by selectively choosing parts and subassemblies during conversion. It is also possible to toggle points, curves, and hidden elements in the models on and off during conversion.
